Hello. I was just messing around on my mac, which I almost never use, and I found this video sitting on my hard drive. I made it back in 2013 and never uploaded it. I think I intended on doing some voice over work and a description of why the grenade works this way, but I never got around to it. Well, it is 18 months later, I just found it, and I figured I would upload it and post a link to it here and on the steam forums. It is nothing special, but I made it intending to address the questions I got asked probably 10 times per game, how do you use the Japanese grenade? It doesn't work like the American, Russian, and German grenades, it is quite different.
Well, it all comes down to how the fuse works. the Japanese grenade has a friction fuse protected by a nipple. You can see the nipple prominently displayed when you hold it out in front of you, the game makes it look like it is a solid piece of material. In real life, it is actually just metal foil surrounding a little button. When you remove the pin, you allow the button to depress, setting off the fuse. Unlike the other grenades in the game, the pin does not actually activate any aspect of the grenade! You must depress the nipple to activate the grenade! In the game, you do this by clicking the 3rd mouse button. If you wish to throw a grenade, you hold down left click, to depress the nipple you middle click. If you wish to underhand toss the grenade, you hold middle click and tap right click to activate the fuse. If you simply tap left click or tap middle click, you will automatically press the fuse, provided you live long enough!
So if you're attempting a suicide charge, make sure to press that nipple before you charge into a group of Americans! If they shoot you before you press it, you cannot blow up! And where is the fun in that?!
