Should there be barrier penetration in KF2?
I can't even say for sure that I want it, but I do think it's worth discussing.
In KF1, some guns could penetrate through a zed and hit another behind it, or several, but there was no penetrating of environment objects. Zeds were safe from a .50 bmg if a trash can was in the way.
It would bring new gameplay intricacies, which can add a fun challenge.
It also makes the design of maps more complicated, though, since you've got to decide what materials to make stuff out of.
Here's a little example of how a wave might go if you didn't balance it well enough. NSFW, BrBa spoilers.
This could be something the M60 and any other LMGs KF2 gets could specialize in. Helmetbro, if LMGs are his, could also get a bonus for it.
This would also be good for making MGs and commando's rifles more distinct from each other, and for nerfing LMG's damage in a logical way.
Load rifles with fragmenting/expansive ammo that deals good damage when shot directly into a squishy weak zed. Load MGs with penetrative ammo that doesn't deal as much damage, but it can hit zeds behind something (including other zeds).
Penetrative ammo being less affected by stronger zeds' damage resistance may realistically make sense, but that may not be ideal for balance; that depends what role they want LMGs to do.
If weldable doors could be penetrated, they would definitely need to balance that by making doors take damage from bullets.
