It was interesting to observe another free weekend and the events on multiple servers and what they reveal about RO2.
1) RO2 has a steep learning curve
This one is obvious but it is interesting to see the new players get slaughtered and how they respond.
2) Poorly designed maps with meat grinders are not good for player retention
This one I have said before and will say again. After a round on Rakowice none of the new players on Allies were left in the game after a massacre at A. If it was someone's first experience in RO2 I doubt they would play even another round.
TWI should fix poorly designed maps to help player retention: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...d.php?t=101251
3) There should be an honour limit for TL and SL roles
This one is obvious and has been suggested many times by many people. I have no idea why TWI have not implemented it yet.
Not only does having a new player take TL/SL roles frustrate the veterans in the game, it also leads to the other new players in that squad getting slaughtered and not enjoying RO2.
This one seems like a no-brainer to fix.
4) Axis stacking is really prevalent in the community.
Thankfully, I did not notice a particular Axis stack this free weekend which was great. However, it was noticable that the teams seemed generally more even than usual with all the new players equally on both teams. This suggests what I think is clear that normally (not on free weekends) the Axis team is predominantly stacked with veterans.
The community needs to do something about this.
5) Axis have the 'sexier' weapons
Even the new players were commenting on this - so this will eventually lead to aa return of the Axis stack.
Unlike point 4), TWI should try and 'sex up' the Allies' weapons to help prevent stacking.
Comments welcome.
