Equipment with unique mechanics!

I want to see weapons and tools with unique mechanics in KF2! While KF1 had a plethora of guns, very few items have any unique mechanic or functionality beyond "point and shoot".



Some ideas presented below talk about opening new pathways, which give map makers and players a new twist in possible map designs.



WEAPONS



  • mortar launcher you have to crouch down, deploy, aim, drop a mortar in then *PHOOMP*...*KABOOM*; damage concurrent with its difficult use

  • heavy machine guns that are absolutely lethal, but very difficult to control unless you plant their tripod on something steady like the ground or a low wall.

  • throwing weapons such as javelins, tomahawks, throwing axes/knives; hefty damage and momentum, but limited ammo unless you recover what you throw

  • reach weapons like spears, tridents, glaives, etc that offer the advantage of striking targets at a distance, but are cumbersome if targets get too close

  • let's get serious: you aren't firing the awesome power of an anti-tank rifle from the hip - you have to crouch or go prone; it one-shots damn near anything, but it has serious drawbacks

  • manually remote-detonated explosives; dumb mines are nice, but sometimes you want to wait until a choice target or group are in the kill zone.

  • Chainsaw / Fire Axe: besides their usefulness against zeds, they also allow you to fell trees across pathways to slow zeds, quickly cut through sealed doors and blocking debris to open new pathways, or even open holes in sealed doors that can be fired through - at the cost of the door's overall durability.

  • Heavy, large projectiles - like Javelins or nails from a nail-gun - might temporarily pin still-alive zeds to terrain or each other depending on trajectory.


TOOLS & EQUIPMENT



  • Spikes: can be welded to doors, floors, walls, or simply tossed out. Useful for softening up zeds at high-traffic areas like choke-points or on the other side of a sealed door; takes some time to properly weld these to something.

  • land mines, claymores, bouncing betties

  • bear traps: useful for crippling a high-priority target or blocking a mass of zeds in a narrow hallway because they can't get past a zed with its leg mangled in the trap. Takes several seconds to deploy or reset these.

  • razor wire, barbed wire - zeds damage themselves by walking into it, but it eventually gets torn down. Takes some time to string these out properly and affix each end to something sturdy.

  • Steel Bar: can be welded to barriers to increase durability or welded across a narrow hall (or other open space) to slow down zeds. Multiple bars could be welded across narrow halls or doorways to create a makeshift barrier that can be fired through until broken down. Takes some time to do the welding.

  • riot shield; physically block zeds from advancing, stagger them with the shield, but you can be overpowered by enough zeds - or a big enough zed - pushing on you; useful for covering pals and blocking choke points against some threats. Can only use one-handed weaponry.

  • (regular) shield; allows blocking a higher percentage of damage than blocking with a weapon and allows you to successfully block strikes from large zeds, like Fleshpounds, that otherwise could not be blocked effectively. However, you are limited to using a one-handed weapon.

  • speed loaders (magazine and/or revolver); reduces reload time

  • glowsticks, flares, deployable lanterns / spotlights

  • headlamp; provides decent illumination if your gun doesn't have a flashlight attachment

  • grappling hook and rope; doesn't let you reach otherwise inaccessible areas, but allows you to create more direct travel paths. Be aware that specimens may cut the line or dislodge the hook if someone's on the line. Climbing is not particularly fast, so it's best used to avoid a long detour. Useful for quickly descending, though. Only one person can be on the line at a time.

  • noisemaker - a sound loop of someone shouting, clapping their hands, etc; may temporarily distract and confuse zeds as they try to find the source of the noise. If you need to beat a hasty retreat, toss this down an alternate path and then run in the opposite direction. Useful for dividing the number of zeds you have to face at one time or encouraging zeds to take one pathway instead of another.

  • from light body armor to heavy riot gear, a few different classes of armor are available to suit your tastes; heavier armor reduces your capacity to carry other equipment and slows your movement

  • ammo bag: trade some carrying capacity for a little more max ammo capacity; When you're running low, you can switch to this item and open it up to replenish a small amount of your available ammo pool. After use, you have to buy more ammo to put in here.

  • fire extinguisher: douse environmental hazards to open new pathways or save team mates that have caught fire; doubles as a blunt melee weapon or zed-blinding-device in a pinch. Can even be thrown/dropped and shot for an explosion.

  • tank of napalm: can be poured out and later ignited with included cheap matchbook or any other flame. Burns for quite a while and damages zeds that pass through.

  • bolas: made of strong wire and heavy weights, hurl at a zed's legs to tangle them up temporarily, slowing their movement speed and possibly causing them to stumble and fall. Must hit the legs to have any effect.






Cannot connect to servers

Hello,



I've been having this problem for a long time where I cannot connect to a server, and I'm stuck in the "connecting" screen until I'm returned to the main menu. It's confusing because I can connect to some servers, and I have no idea what's causing this.




Adminkick and adminkickban commands only working sometimes

Yeah so strange issue. These commands don't always work. I can be logged in fine. Sometimes they will kick who I want other times it will not. I could of kicked someone fine before and 2 minutes later want to kick his friend who thinks its funny to abuse peoples jewish mothers but the command will do nothing.

I installed a RO2 dedicated server via SteamCMD. I have opened ports 7777, 7779, 27015, and 8080.



When I run the batch file included with the dedicated server files to test the server, it appears to run relatively normally and then I get

FHttpdownload:: Tick: Timeout processing request.


Sometimes it appears in the server browser and when I try to join it it displays the correct IP but never connects it just sits there.



I searched around and found some similar issues but no conclusive solutions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gametype

Hi all!



I' ve been practising with code in udk, using a custom game type. I tought

it would have been as simple as in udk to set up one in ro2, but i'm having a lot of troubles (no gametype loaded when starting map, the compiler that crashes ecc...). I've already tried to read the other thread on this section "how to fire up a gametype" but i only got confused.



While in udk i just declare a class that extends another gametype class and then i put "mycustomgameinfo" on my test map's world properties and everything goes ok, in ro2 it seems this is handled by the SetGameTypeFunction, but there's also the possibility to determine it in the editor, then i tried to do it like hotw mod does, but still nothing :(



So... how should i set up a mine gametype that i can use to test my code?





-what should my change on my test map?



-what should i change in my config files?



-what should my gametype class look like?



Please be as clear as possible, 'cause i' m very confused.:confused:

Controls

Hey guys! I have a problem with RO2/Rising Storm's controls. Everytime I join a server, I can't move my character. I can only shoot, go prone, switch weapons, and etc. For other FPS games like Battlefield, Arma, and etc, the movement controls work. Can someone tell me what is wrong and the solution to solve it? Thanks if you do.




Grenades explode on handrails

Everytime I throw a grenade or shoot a demo gun and the grenade/projectile touches a handrail, it blows up right there. It means that throwing grenades near handrails is essentially suicide. It also makes being demo in handrail heavy areas like kf-icebreaker pretty annoying sometimes.




.44 Magnum and Mk.23 Recoil Bug


"75% less recoil with all Sharpshooter weapons" does not work properly on the .44 Magnum and Mk.23 pistols. Proof here:

I also showcase the 9mm and Handcannon so you can notice the recoil difference that should apply to .44 magnum and Mk.23 as well.



It's quite annoying to have to use .44 Magnum and Mk.23 with this bug, I need to take a lot more time between my shots and exclusively use iron sights unless in close range or I end up missing. Handcannon I can even hip-fire and hit long range shots, that's how accurate it is, but it has a slower ammo pool and it's power is rather overkill most of the time.

KF KF-Consequences

Hi guys. This is the final version of this map recently finished. It took me several months because I stopped working on it during a long time due to other projects.







* Description: Evil stalks the desolate streets. Fear and panic are manifested between explosions, screams and roars of death. The city is in ruins and all the shelters that had promised to be the last hope were reduced to smoke and debris. We landed at an abandoned facility where we hope to find survivors because we saw a distress signal, but it seems that we are alone or at least so we thought. Now we must face the terrible consequences.

To Devs: Question about performance.

Hi Im planning on builing myself a new monster computer with the intentions of running Dragon Age: Inquisiton smoothly, the question is, can it run KF2 smoothly as well? I know you dont have the specs clear yet, and cant tell if you have, but could you simply tell me if "my" computer can handle KF2 at max settings.



Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte/MSI Z97 LGA1150 socketed USB 3.0 plug-in

Processor: Intel I5-4690

Graphics Driver: Nvidia GTX 970 4GB

RAM: 16GB DDR3/4 (at least)



Any insight to this matter helps, as I want to bring the gore to the max on this lovable game.




KF Unable to move

I just recently came back to KF as I was busy studying last few months and now for some reason I am unable to move, I've tried 2 different keyboards which as you can tell by my typing has no problems with the letters yet I can't move forward, back, left or right, I can jump and sometimes crouch (once or twice I was unable), I can fire but I can't use alternative fire.



So far I have tried resetting key assignment, tried setting them to different buttons (up, down, left, right keys and t,f,g,h, after that) deleting user.ini, re-downloading the game, nothing so far has worked and I'm out of ideas, drivers and OS up to date.

[Error] Game stuck on a black screen after opening sequence, task not responding

Recently, whenever I start up RO2, after the opening sequence I get stuck on a black screen. Opening task manager also shows that the task is not responding. I've been able to run it fine up until now, I've tried disabling the opening but it just gets stuck the instant it starts. I should probably also add that I couldn't skip any part of the opening. Any help would be great!




Playing SL

Not sure why the idea of SLs sitting in one spot in front of a cap has become the gold-standard or why some feel that it is all that is required by SLs.



I had this become an issue last night when an SL was spawning his entire crew in front of an MG on Winterwald but claimed he was "doing his job right".



I'd like to say this: Good SLs don't just sit in front of or around a cap and act as a mobile-spawn point. Few times have I ever seen this work to great effect or assist in winning a game.



A good SL is one that either smokes a frontal assault and leads by example, or maneuvers around the flanks of a defense so that his squad can bypass locked-down areas. It helps no one to have one of the (often) few SMG/Semi-auto and Pistol equipped classes to hide in a ditch instead of making use of these tools to win.



Please; if you pick SL do not be afraid to take chances or be at the front of a charge! It is called Squad-Leader for a reason!




RO2 Bug. A soldier owns two catanas at a time...

When you use a catana in your hands as your primary weapon, your model (3rd person) shows that you have one additional catana sheathed on your side (you can see its handle). So the bug is as follows: after taking/throwing down/soldier is killed and katana stays on the ground - the handle on the sheath should be removed. See screen...

SCRN balance perk discount not working

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the "modding" community, and started playing on my server a week ago, and I discovered that most of the normal perks, have no discount bonus.

On the medic, sharpshooter and the Support, none of the weapons have discount bonuses, and on the firebug only the Flare revolvers are discounted.

Does this have something to do with scrn balance and the max level cap?



Is there an option I can cap the discount to a max of level 6?

Or do I need to mod it myself?



* I do have SCRN balance and gunslinger on the server, also a few custom perks, but those discounts do work.

Also, is there a way, I can make the medic sentry bot, a bot for the medic? So, discount applies for the medic.

And can I make it that the turrets from Sentry Tech add up to the damage progression?



Alot of questions, sorry for that, really want to learn :)

3 free games what should I choose?

Been out of the loop for a while. So im not up to date.



Sold gaming rig months ago, just orderedd new parts for a new one. Comes with AMD coupon for 3 free games to choose. If anyone is aware of this promotion whats available? I havent even begun to look yet let alone know what they are, I see I think the picture of Hitman Absolution being one of them but I already have that. What else can I choose?



I really only play FPS games, and maybe a few RTS, last one I liked was RUSE

This is probably Top secret by tripwire but will be seeing this game sometime soon? Maybe in 2015? And Im going to guess and assume hopefully it will use new Unreal 4 engine? Its amazing. Nothing can match it. Use it and they will come.....

Introduction/Why I Prefer Gamepads
Before anyone starts saying "omg u n00b why u use controller kbm so l33t bro", make sure you read everything I have to say and if you still feel like saying something like that, you can piss off. I've grown up playing on both consoles and PC. I've played on both equally, spending time originally with a keyboard and mouse on PC. I never went full PC gamer because I never had a really good rig. I have just as much experience with a keyboard and mouse as I have had with gamepads. Now that I am pretty much PC only, I still like to play on my TV and not be missing keys when playing games. Also due to wrist problems. playing any game on the PC requireing a mouse starts to irritate my wrists. So around this time last year I switched over to the Steam Big Picture interface and loaded up Xpadder, also disabling the Windows Explorer interface in Windows (I only use Windows for gaming, everything else I do in ArchLinux). I got myself a XBOX 360 Wireless controller adapter and pulled out the controllers from my 360. I felt right at home. Its difficult to set up at first, but then it feels great to be able to play games in bed on my TV. I am actually more effective at games with a gamepad than I am with keyboard and mouse. Unreal Tournament on Masterful or Inhuman? Yup. Left 4 Dead 2 Expert Realism? Yup. Killing Floor on HOE solo? Yup.



Killing Floor and Its Future

I noticed on Twitter today that gamepad support is indeed going to be in Killing Floor 2. Now, that could be a very good thing, or it could be a disaster waiting to happen. One problem that arose in my KF1 Xpadder config was a shortage of buttons. You'll see some of my voodoo magic that got it working farther into this post, but I want to bring up some valid points for Tripwire to be aware of for KF2. First: Sensitivity. You want to make sensitivity adjustable for players, along with acceleration control. One wonderful example of complete crap controller support would be Payday 2 and Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition. Try moving around the joystick precisely and you'll see what I mean. Its so bad in that game that I had to enable Auto Aim just to be able to hit a ****ing Alien Pig Cop that was standing 2 feet in front of me. And that brings me to another point: Aim Assist. DO NOT INCLUDE IT. If you get the sensitivity just right, you will see that it is not needed except for people who are completely dumb. Left 4 Dead 2 on the 360 had no aim assist. Was it a problem? No, because the controller sensitivity and acceleration was perfect and freely adjustable by the player. One more thing to mention, button layouts. This is also very important especially in a game like Killing Floor. You need buttons for Fire, Alt Fire, Iron Sights, Melee Weapons, Sidearms, Primary Weapons, Secondary Weapons, Special Weapons, Quick Heal, Throw Cash, Throw Weapons, Use, Scoreboard (yes I use it a lot when playing medic to see the status of everyone), Reload, and Voice Chat (Yes, No, Insult Specimen, Medic, etc). How in the hell did I get it working with KF1 on an XBOX 360 Controller? Lots of time and frustration thats how. One could say I just use the Mouse Scroll simulation from Xpadder.... no. In KF you need to be quick switching to weapons in tight situations, especially on HOE. Use a Dpad to scroll through guns or Y to cycle through them one by one is completely unacceptable and sadly seen in nearly every FPS game nowadays. Solution for KF2? Weapon Wheel and a Voice chat system that is controlled via Dpad, Unreal Tournament 3 which uses the same engine has BOTH of these. Allow the players to rebind the keys and you are golden.



Enough... How Do I Play KF1 With My XBOX 360 Controller?


  1. Get the latest version of Xpadder: http://www.xpadder.com/

  2. Download my profile: http://sirentorturers.site.nfoserver...xpadderprofile (save page as killingfloor.xpadderprofile)

  3. Configure Xpadder with you XBOX 360 Controller, add in all the buttons and sticks. (If I remember correctly theres already files you can just grab for this)

  4. Set up KillingFloor.exe with an AutoRun with the profile I supplied.

  5. Now for the hard part, set up your game. You will have to rebind some in-game keys, and I'll explain why later. MAKE SURE YOU RESET YOUR CONTROLS TO DEFAULT.

  6. Set your Iron Sights to Hold and NOT toggle.

  7. Change your Throw Weapon key to 6.

  8. Set Left Control to Toggle Crouch.

  9. Console command:

  10. If server admin, console command:

  11. Adjust your Mouse sensitivity in-game to your liking. Do not change the profile settings.

Notes

*Look sensitivity is lowered during aiming to allow for precision shots while allowing quick aiming when firing from hip in those "OH SH!T!!!!" moments.

**Use the Dpad and use the numbers corresponding the the menu options. In cases where you need 6, left trigger and left shoulder, thus why I made you rebind your Throw Weapon key. Left shoulder is 1, dpad down is 2, dpad left is 3, dpad right is 4, dpad up is 5.



***Throw weapon sometimes zooms the screen in. Just switch to another gun and aim down sights quickly to fix.

****To pause server you must be logged in as admin. On ScrnBalance servers you don't have to be logged in to initiate a pause vote.





Final Notes

If you have any issues and it doesn't work the way I said it should work, let me know what your problem is and I'll update the post. This was a quickly written post so its bound to have mistakes. Also one more thing, Vsync and Reduce Mouse Lag options do indeed tamper with your aiming. So play around with it. I'll post my settings if need be, I don't remember them off the top of my head since I am posting this from ArchLinux.
