Apologising in advance if somebody has already submitted this.
Idea: In more words, ability to impose a handicap on yourself that makes the game think that your perk level is lower than what it actually is. E.g. you are level 5, but you handicap yourself to level 2 - the game still gives you experience that can lead to you unlocking level 6, but until you turn off the handicap the game treats you as if you were 2.
Why this should be done: a number of reasons.
KF1. I am a seasoned veteran with all of my perks being level 5-6. I introduce a new player to the game, and we want to play together as a 2 man team.
There is an obvious problem here. I am levels 5-6, he is levels 0-1, and the gap between them is immeasurable.
What happens is that while he struggles to survive on Normal, anything that isn't Suicidal can barely scratch me. The end result is that, depending on the difficulty setting, either I end up perma-bored, or my friend ends up perma-dead. And this is not a good thing, naturally.
This isn't really caused by our gaps in skill, but rather by our gaps in levels. We have tried to switch accounts at once point, which reversed the situation polarily - my friend can suddenly tank through Hard without any problems whatsoever, and getting through Medium not throroughly dead becomes a very significant challenge for me.
What I do not want to propose is a reduction of the impact in the level system. But what I outlined above is definitely a problem and should be dealt with. The natural way to fix this would be to allow players to adjust their level on the fly, so that they can blend better with newer, less leveled players.
One could argue that instead one could come up with a system that makes the game easier or harder if there is a significant difference between player levels, but this will still not fix the problem of one player essentially having an unfair advantage in power over the other, caused only by the fact that he was owning the game for a longer time.
Another partial reason why I want this to happen is because in KF1 I find all servers below Suicidal way too easy due to being significantly overleveled. However, I can't just switch to Suicidal like some would suggest - finding players for a Suicidal server is infinitely harder than finding some for Normal ones. With ability to reduce my level, I could make Normal difficult for me again and return back to the good old days where I'm underpowered to death and nobody can get anything done right. I miss those.
This handicap should not be forced in any shape or form, should be entirely optional, and using it should be left completely at user's discretion.
Hope this gets implemented somehow.
