Terminated: The Whiners and the Crusaders

It has been nearly two months since the VAC detection ban was implemented.

On one corner, we have the Whiners, complaining about hacks they did in the past and refuses to accept the past consequences of their actions. "Oh, it's in the past. Can I get a free pass?" Extremely entitled and want to believe that they're the most important person in the universe.

On the other corner, we have the Crusaders, praising the recent implementation as the best thing since sliced bread, and gleefully wishes for the day where all hackers gets thrown into a facility like Unit 731. Embraces the black and white, "Once a cheater, always a cheater" mentality.

"But, Sir Aedeagus! You are VAC Banned as well! You don't have the privilege to voice your opinions about this! This is a ploy for people to feel sympathy for you!"

Please stow away your pitchforks and shotguns and hear me out.

I've VAC Banned for nearly five years. How? I don't think it matters now since I had the intelligence of a lobotomized ant. What do I think about the move by TI? Nearly perfect. I accept the fact that I am unable to play the game because of my past actions.

Cheaters and hackers ruin people's game experience, that we all understand. Kick them; they'll rejoin and ruin everything again, screaming with their squeaky voices through poorly-made microphones. Use aim-bots and other malicious plug-ins. A bunch of lustful, misery-inducing Schadenfreude. They are poor excuses for human beings. We'll cheer in joy when their stupid giggles get caught in their throats once they get slapped with VAC; banned from games on their 500$ accounts.

No enforcement will result in cheaters and hackers running rampant. Too much enforcement and hear them cry "Fascist!"

But VAC is far from flawless.

Understand that you don't have to necessarily cheat or hack to trigger the system. Some players might get banned because they were gullible enough to give away their password, let their morally-suspect cousin sneak in and play on their account, download disguised mods that trigger VAC, etc. They exist everywhere and that's unfortunate, because alongside them exists plenty of players who feign the exact same thing just to go in and hack again.

Most of you would say, "Their account is their responsibility! If that's what they did, then their punishment is just!"

True, but locking a person out from their favorite games just because they made a small mistake in the past, that any one of us could make? How many of you made the exact same mistake several years ago whether in public or on the internet? We all have our old shame that we refuse to acknowledge and it haunts us for the rest of our lives.

The world isn't black and white where there exist good and evil; a shoplifter and all his relatives should be given the death penalty. Mitsubishi is still in support of Imperial Japan solely because they built tanks for them 70 years ago. But the world isn't so forgiving when you commit a crime and expect a slap on the back just because it's in the past. The Terminated policy will not change in the future and all you (and me) VAC banned players are expected to deal with our consequences. When you discovered you were VAC banned, why didn't you immediately switch accounts when you had the chance? Saving some money and preventing a massive loss of your stats?

/End rant that I may regret writing in the first place. Another to add to my list of old shame.
