What future RO games/updates should aim for IMHO

Some months ago community manager of Tripwire Interactive opened a new thread 2 paths are set before you where he asked "What would you like to see more as the focus for the next update?"

In my opinion many votes and posts where all made thoughtless and rash. Most of the people voted for more content than gameplay changes and I will state my opinion on that. Maybe a few of you guys who voted for more content will change their minds. Tripwire Interactive managed to make a very complex videogame like Red Orchestra 2 with a very small amount of budget. Thats very impressive when you compare this to other games with budges more than 4 times larger than this. I think this should be pointed out and that RO2/RS isn't perfect (which is nearly impossible anyway) stands out of the question. Their are many things to do and many things wanted. Maybe in future updates or future games. But whats really important?

In my opinion one of the biggest problems with RO2/RS are the menus and the HUD. While using the menus their are several bugs and occurrences which make the usage very uncomfortable and irritierend. Their are several events when menus are overlaying each other, wrong commands are made and so on. Another point would be the whole design and look (which was made a lot better with rising storm BUT why should RO2 players have RS designs?). Tripwire should focus on making good and solid menus in future updates and in their future games like KF2. Thats a base everyone's working with! The HUD in RO2 is made quite good but in my opinion you should be able to enable/disable various HUD elements with console commands OR/AND a menu.

Another point would be the RO2/RS movement. At first: the movement is very realistic. In my opinion it's the most realistic movement and walking/running feel ever in a game. Also the weapon handling is really great. But their are still several problems with it. It feels clunky and very limited most of the time. I could go into detail right now but thats not a thread for movement alone. The biggest problems are with the MG, the jumping and various other situations. Also their are many situations where your character makes things you just don't want to do e.g. standing up etc. Also I accidently killed someone as commander with my weapon because I missed a artillery button and you shouldn't be able to fire while having the map open. Like I said... MANY THINGS. I wanted to make a video for this thread generally but wanted to point it first out here.

The 3rd point would be A REAL SPECATOR MODE and better demo recording tools! A real specator mode would benefit everyone on every map and in all future TWI games if they work with the same engine. They could use the real spectator mode which was developed once in other several games and same goes with the demo recording tools.

The community needs a spectator mode where you can see the weapon in first person and everything without the stuttering. More informations in the thread.

Their are demo tools in the game already but you can't use them well. If you record a demo as client you can't see any gameplay and the map you've played is empty. But if you are the server admin you can record a full demo where you can change perspectives which should be available for everyone! But you can't watch people in a proper first person view (no real spectator mode).

Try out the demo tools for yourself!

- Open Red Orchestra 2 / Rising Storm

- Open the console with F3 or ^

- type in "open *mapname*" (e.g. "open te-apartments")

- Choose a team and a class to spawn

- Open the console again with F3 or ^

- type in "demorec demoname" (e.g. "demorec test")

- Now walk around, change weapons, kill yourself with grenades what ever or spawn a bot with "addbots 1"

- type in "demostop" to stop demorecording (you've started demorecording with demorec)

- type in "disconnect" or leave the map othervise with the menu

- type in "demoplay *demoname* (e.g. "demoplay test")

Now the map should loud again and you can spectate yourself from other perspectives and watch yourself killing yourself etc. This type of recording could be possible in a full match with other players! It's like you're specating the whole game again!

You can disable the hud now with "showhud" or use the command "slomo" to slow down the game or make it faster. Wouldn't this be cool for youtubers, e-sport, hacker busting etc.?

ALL those things would effect every player on every map. The base of the game should be better and THEN it's time for content updates!
