So, I've been playing KF1 for a while and though the game itself is fun and, so to say, meaty, there's a number of things in it that vary from slightly discomforting to plain irritating. Here's what I suggest to be fixed, altered and improved in KF2.
[Controls]
- "Forget" empty guns and don't select them until ammo is found (see Half-Life / Counter-Strike). Dry clicks don't do much against bloodthirsty mob.
- Allow to break loading animation of any gun (see Half-Life / Counter-Strike). Being able to switch before reloading often means survival.
- Make separate button for welder tool to allow bringing it up quicker.
- Make specific voice command for Fleshpound (or something like "I see a large one!" if other specimens of similar power will be added) and for telling non-Commando teammates that Patriarch is almost dead.
- Do not allow to set Escape key to anything else other than game menu or explicitly ask to define some other key for menu before letting go, otherwise the menu becomes inaccessible while in game. Note: Escape key can be set to any command by occasion when trying to leave keyboard settings dialogue.
[Combat]
- Do not spawn any zeds within 10 meters of any player, unless it's a spawn point out of reach.
- Allow to do not only critical headshots, but also critical dismemberment with high-power weapons, like shooting/cutting off Husk's cannon or Scrake's chainsaw.
- Allow to hit / push back smaller zeds by attacking them with weapon's stock (or handle for pistols). Maybe also include bayonets for extra cash.
[Perks and development]
- Show progress up to 2nd decimal digit when counting in millions.
- Since armor is made from scrap materials, I think it'd be "lore-friendly" for Support class to weld armor on other player (but not on himself).
- Allow everyone to see enemy's HP as long as Commando is alive (everyone within his range, of course).
[Maps]
- Waist-high objects must be 100% mountable, unless they lead to a dead end or spawn point. Getting one's behind chewed just cuzza not being able to jump over a small fence is not the kind of difficulty that should be in the game.
- Exclude or modify Hospital Horrors map: its geometry makes it easy to get lost (though maybe it's the whole point).
- Add more "landmarks" to Farm, cuz now it's way too easy to get lost on the way back from trader and die in the fields cuzza not reaching a defendable position.
[Misc.]
- Include native support for cyrillic characters (nicknames, chat messages).
- Make the trader look less fugly.
- Add more voices, but keep the "comic relief" approach to all squad responses.
- Show both HP and armor points in scoreboard to make it easier to see who is in need of defense.
- Include all characters and weapons from KF1 (except for achievement-related ones, maybe) into the game by default (i.e. don't make DLCs out of the same items again). That is, if complete overhaul is not planned.
- Do the extensive beta-testing to exclude most bugs. KF1 has too many, even though not many are critical.
[Fixes]
- When dual guns are bought, both are only half-loaded and finding it out in the heat of the fight is the opposite of fun. Sell them fully loaded.
- No damage when falling from 1 meter height, little damage when falling from 2 meters. That'd be closer to reality.
- Restrict zeds to use stairs and not just "slide" up the railings.
- Allow faster movement not only with melee weapons, but also with syringe and welder. They sure are portable and not that heavy, but they slow the player down.
- Refresh server info when it's closed. Now it's not uncommon to see one's own server still running despite creating a new one.
[Settings]
- Include an option to show damage floaters / messages.
- Remember the last game mode and difficulty setting used.
- Allow to save and load maplists.
- Allow to filter maps when searching for online games.
- Add option for hosting: "reload the same map / go down the maplist on death".
[Achievements]
- If possible, categorize achievements in Steam (both locked and unlocked), putting each group under a header: event-specific (Christmas, Halloween, Circus, Hillbilly), difficulty specific, map specific (something to be done on any difficulty, but on a certain map), weapon specific, mob specific.
- Show progress bar and current number for all number-based achievements (like it's done for "One Small Step for Man" or "Meet Your Maker!").
- Make descriptions clear for each achievement. "Uber Tuber", for example, doesn't say anything about the way it's earned and "Full charge" is not said to be map-specific while it can only be earned on Steamland.
