One thing I noticed when watching the Developer Diaries is that while the blood itself looks great, the spreading of it is really off-putting. For reference, look at this:

When the Cyst starts moving, the blood spreads out impossibly far for something that's just dripping out of its head. This is after the initial brain explosion where such a puddle might be justified, and when it falls backwards you see a bunch of blood appear near the feet somehow. So really my suggestion is to work on that if you're not already. Presumably it has to do with system in place where blood is taken and then merged in with the ground texture. I guess you just need a more varied set of blood splash sizes for the system to choose from, but hell, I don't know how old that video is. You might have already fixed it. Cheers.
