'Dosh = Life' Mod

Here's a concept I pitched for KF1 in the steam forums ages ago (to much booing. But Steam Forums is a horrid place and everyone in it hates everything)





The idea, quite simply, is that your current health value and current cash balance would always be equivalent. This would lead to some.. rather interesting effects on how the game is played:


  • Spend a lot of money on big fancy guns? Good job, you're almost dead now.

  • Act recklessly and lose a bunch of health? Now you can't afford your big guns.

  • Survive a bunch of waves and spend frugally? You've got as much health as the patriarch! Go wrestle a fleshpound with your knife, you beast you.

  • Donate some dosh to a friend? You are literally shortening your life to grant them more.

  • Everyone could throw a bunch of dosh on one player to super-power him with insane health levels. Most likely a berzerker..

  • Medics will tend to blast streams of dosh at dying teammates rather than heal them. "Call me the U.S. government because I'm giving YOU a bail-out, chum"




Some things would have to change, of course. The medical syringe (including from medic guns) would have to do something other than restore health, perhaps granting a small amount of armor (~10%?) on each injection.



Cash payouts and Zed damage would have to be balanced. Maybe some other auxiliary gameplay additions like.. random zeds being visually marked and giving bonus cash payouts on kill (either added with the normal kill reward automatically, or perhaps dropped on the floor where the Zed was standing), or reward multipliers during ZED-time. (features that would make fun mini-mutators for any game type, if you don't mind the arcade-y-ness) perhaps your cash/life amount would gradually diminish over the course of all active waves (because time IS money) with the bounty/wave complete rewards increased to compensate..



There'd have to be some kind of limiter that prevents you from spending or tossing dosh if you're only holding X amount or less. You'd have to spawn with a minimum amount of cash as well, with measures taken to prevent abuse of that...



Maybe on death, players would explode out the last cash they had to litter the floor around their corpse, to be picked up by teammates. Equal to their cash total 1s prior (or after last dropping cash, whichever happened more recently, to prevent abuse)





I think it would make for a very interesting experience and I'd be interested to see how players would adapt to such a rule change. How about you? Do you value your money as much as your health? :D
