i was writing this post in this thread http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...d.php?t=110592 but the thread was locked during the process of writing, so i just created a new thread.
Honestly i am happy that TWI didnt make RO3 and chose different war, different sides and different game name. For
me "Red Orchestra" franchise died in a few time after RO2 came out. Because Ro1 is a real red orchestra that died quickly after Ro2 release, but RO2 is not a successor of RO1. I would say that ro2 is much worse but i wont because its not what i want to tell, what i want to tell is that RO2 is totally different from RO1. You can argue that RO2 is not
worse and even better than RO1, but you cant argue that its totally different, it has principially different gameplay and key feautures. Most of those who loved RO1 for the way it was, for its own special,
original and specific feautures, different from other games, they didnt like RO2 at all. May be just very few % of old players from RO1 actually liked RO2, but these are more like exceptions and i dont think that RO1 difference from other games is what they liked. RO2 is just not a successor of RO1 because it did not inherit the main RO1 ideas. So
calling it "Red Orchestra" was in my opinion a total mistake, or hyp? on purpose. There wouldnt be any questions if TWI made Rising Storm first instead of RO2, it would be just its own game, not connected with RO1 anyhow and it actually wouldnt kill the RO1, at least not as much. Using "Red Orchestra" name for RO2 is just incorrect expluatation of the name, it makes people think that this is successor of RO1 while its not.
Many RO1 players tryed RO2 (i was one of them) and were totally disappointed, and when they returnt to RO1 they found it dead. Socom aka Fluke, popular mapper in Ro1 who made Battle in House map principially does not play RO2 and he even did not want to play classic mode or IOM mod, although i ve asked him many times but he just principially boycots this game. There are many similar cases. And those players who didnt play RO1 and tryed RO2, they were thinking that they are playing the real "second part", but when they really tryed RO1 they were totally surprised how this game is totally different, some people just wondered why did RO2 loose the main original ideas of RO1 that made RO1 special and original. I mean, those players who came mostly from CoD/BF like games, from their perspective RO2 really looked like something "hardcore", cool and realistic. But it was like seeing a tiny top of iceberg in the open ocean and wondering that there is actually an ice in the ocean of liquid water, and THEN wondering that there is also a hidden GIANT iceberg that is uncomparabely bigger than this little top.
So, making RS2 instead of RO3 is in my opinion a totally correct step. If you are doing something completely different from the first thing, dont try to call it as the first thing, dont say that its successor of the first thing. Just make a new thing, new franchise, new name.
I just hope that TWI will continue using "Rising Storm" name and wont make any RO3. Unless, of course, they will decide to make it as real RO1 successor, but this is probably the last thing i will ever believe in my life.
