Idea for a Berserker mechanic: Bonus Armour

Yeah, yeah. The Berserker is getting a rework and TWI have probably already got something in mind, I thought it was worth throwing this idea out there though.

How about this:

The Berserker gets a "Rage Meter" that fills as they deal damage and parry attacks, when a Berserker recieves damage the value of their Rage Meter is treated as Bonus Armour that is depleted before their kevlar.

Heres two examples where a Berserker currently has 10 rage, 100 hp and 100 kevlar. Their effective armour is 110. Ignoring the 5% resistance to make the math easier and pulling the damage values for Zeds out of my arse.

If the Berserker takes 15 damage from a crawler, 11 damage is dealt to armour and 4 to hp so they are now at 96 hp and 99 kevlar (instead of 89). Nearly negating the light attack.

If the Berserker takes 60 damage from a scrake, 45 damage is dealt to armour and 15 to hp so they are now at 85 hp and 75 kevlar (instead of 65). Not so useful against heavy attacks, but it helps a bit.


Basically the idea is that if you play aggresive (like, ya' know, a berserker) you'll build up enough Rage to negate a light attack or two every now and again, or make the next big hit you take hurt less. Getting whittled down by stalkers or crawlers that you didn't see coming is the most annoying part about playing the Berserker for me, and their currently isn't much you can do about it other than staying out of melee.

I don't really want to go into specifics about what the maximum capacity of the rage meter would be or how fast it would fill. People tend to tunnel vision on the numbers and I'm more interested in what you think of the general idea.

TLDR: Berserker could get earn bonus armour by dealing damage.
