Right now, the Squad leader is a rather stale class.
sure, it has the rare SMG/shotgun/semi-auto but he has the most boring job in the world.
just stay in safe corner near the objective so that your buddies will spawn around you, and occasionally provide atrillery coordinates for the platoon commander
but that is all, the squad leader doesn't actually do any leading.
but he has the ability to do so with commands! you might say, but who is going to listen to those commands?
anyone can do whatever the hell they want and even if they follow orders its pretty damn difficult seeing a tiny white icon on the map to know where to go.
furthermore, the leader can be stupid and order people to go to death traps, and he doesn't get any punishment for doing so.
so here is my suggestion:
UI improvements and rewards for effective leadership
first and foremost. players need to feel rewarded and encouraged to do something.
battlefield is a good example. the players always stick together in that game because they feel natural dependability on others or because it will give them more points.
medics want to stay close to teammates because healing and reviving gives loads of points, while other players want to stay around medics to stay alive.
people want to be around snipers because he throws motion sensors and the sniper wants to be around his team to get assist points from said motion sensor. so on and so forth.
a similar system needs to be implemented in RO2. if players will know that they are rewarded for obeying their leader and the leader knows he gets rewarded for effectively leading them, this will drastically improve teamwork and gameplay
so when a SL orders his team to move somewhere, players who will enter that zone will be awarded with a point, and from there, every kill the players make from that position will be awarded with 2 extra points.
in return the SL will get a point each kill his squad mates made from that area.
this will also encourage SLs to use their squad more effectively, because each area they can order is relatively small, they will be required to give separate orders to their assault teams, rifle teams and the LMG.
to further improve this the SL needs new commands to issue, a simple "go there" is very, VERY limited.
two new commands should be added, first is "fire at target location" to inform their squad what area they should be focusing their fire and suppress it. any enemy that is killed by your squadlings in that area will grant yet another 2 points.
the second command should be "storm this area" to inform this team they need to advance to that location, AND kill all the enemies in it. so points will be rewarded for both being in that area and killing enemies who were there.
this will make the SL a much more effective leader.
and finally, all the mentioned above orders need to be CLEAR AND VISIBLE
that little gray circle on the map simply won't do.
first, upon receiving new orders the players will be notified with a distinctive sound and a visible text message. -not the tiny ones in the right corner-
second there will be a clear icon on the map, it should be black, or red to be easily seen.
also, the area needs to be visible in the actual game, not just HUD, when players will press tactical view, they should see clear outlines of the area they need to storm/supress so that they will have no doubt of where to go or what to do.
this should be pretty easily to implement because all it needs is some new icons and some coding for points.
please support my idea
