As we know, KF is keen on the "show, don't tell" approach to storytelling. I'm still fond of an occasional Objective Mode approach to portraying a narrative (a la KFO-Transit) but otherwise I'm a fan of the Half-Life-esque method of conveyance as well.
Having that said, a separate game coming out in a few months made me realize that this meta method could be taken even further.
Characters and weapons already have their own text bios. Why not apply that to character customization options as well?
For example, let's just pretend for a second that Mr. Foster is NOT in KF2. Then we imagine that DJ Skully has an additional torso option in the form of a suit jacket. And in that description, it reads...
"Belonging to a fallen friend, this corduroy suit jacket was worn by a day trader whose last wish was to have his legacy live on through his unparalleled fashion and unfinished autobiography."
Anyone who reads that and knows a thing or two about KF1 would understand who this jacket is referring to and would have their jaw hit the floor at this sad revelation.
I think that this approach could become an additional method of storytelling to help illustrate just how chaotic the world in KF2 has become. Or would I be the only one who'd be reading said descriptions?
