Okay, I literally thought of this like five minutes ago, so we're talking some real off-the-cuff spit-balling here, and also this is more of a "for the future" suggestion than a "we need this now" kind of thing..
So I've been thinking about how this is supposed to be a co-op game, and how rarely I see, well... real cooperation. People leave each other to die, they ignore wounded teammates, they heal themselves instead of teammates, stuff like that. So what would be a cool feature to encourage cooperation?
Then I thought, "What if each perk had access to something (other than cash and healing) they could GIVE to their teammates, that they had no reason NOT to give because it did nothing for themself, and gave an easy reward if they do?"
Power-Ups. I know that term evokes a more arcade-y sort of game, but I think there's a realism-flavored way to go about it. Each perk, after all, brings to the battlefield certain technological expertise, but doesn't share it with their team, right? So the idea is lending teammates specialized ammo or gun components that your perk would have access to, that would be redundant for YOU because they're benefits YOUR weapons already have, but that would enhance your teammates' weapons or abilities.
You would either buy a cheap "kit" at the store, or just have it available inherently... it may be limited in number of uses per wave, or maybe the process of conferring the power-up would just take time, so it can't just be done on a moment's notice, or delivered to everyone at once. Regardless, you would be limited to ONE recieved upgrade at any time; if you take one from someone of a different perk, it would replace the current one. Also the power-up may or may not persist for only a limited duration / number of uses, either way.
The process of conveying the power up would involve the person giving it using the tool / pushing the relevant button, which would prompt the second person with the option to accept it (or not). Or maybe the giver would just strike a pose (that can be cancelled out of) and any player can interact with them to accept it.
And why bother powering up someone else in the first place? (besides, y'know, increasing your team's winning chances overall) When a teammate using YOUR power-up gets kills, it could automatically grant YOU, the power-up giver, with assist credit and some xp or cash. So by handing out these power-ups, you'd just leech free rewards as your empowered friend kicks butt. (possibly assuming you remain alive while they do so) This could also be a way for newbies / less skilled players to feel useful on a team (and in turn, not be rejected by elitist players with no patience for "dead weight")
Possible examples of specific Perks' power-ups:
Firebug: Grants incendiary rounds. Now anyone can light zeds on fire!
Demolitions: Gives a % damage boost to your grenades.
OR: gives you the effects of "Sacrifice" next time you die. Lol.
Commando: Increased Mag Size. Might not make sense with certain weapons, but... I don't see physically larger clips on the Commando's guns when THEY use it either, so..
OR: Boosted Fire Rate on automatic weapons. Now you too can hose bullets.
Sharpshooter: Increased Magnification on ADS. Maybe even gain an actual scope on certain guns that don't have them.
OR: Armor Piercing or other specialty rounds that increase Critical damage, or are otherwise useful vs. tougher zeds.
Berserker: Gives damage reduction, for the kind of toughness we hope Berserker will have after the next update.
OR: Damage bonus for all melee weapons and/or increased weapon swap when switching TO a melee weapon.
OR: Grants EMP Bullets.
Medic: Grants improved healing syringe. The gift they hope you'll return!
OR: Grants mild health regen. It's as though the medic is ALWAYS attending to you! .... Almost.
OR: Grants those poison bullets nobody seems to like. Hey, it's on top of what you've already got, right?
Support: Grants improved Welding ability.
OR: Grants +1 penetration to viable weapons.
OR: Grants reserve ammo capacity bonus.
If I've missed some glaringly obvious reason that a system like this wouldn't work in KF2, let me know! Otherwise, let me know what you think, and feel free to suggest other possible powerups / alterations to the proposed system.
